Guardians of the Coasts
Our beaches: a common good.A shared responsibility.A common future.
Guardians of the Coasts brings citizens, local communities, experts and organisations together to strengthen knowledge, participation and collective action for the protection of our coasts.
Learn moreIf we don’t act now, free beaches may cease to be free.
Our shores are more than beautiful landscapes. They are public spaces, shared rights and living ecosystems.
Across Europe, free access to the coast is being restricted. Privatisation, overtourism and environmental pressure are changing our shores, communities are losing access to spaces that belong to everyone, and citizens’ voices are too often left out of decisions on coastal development. Guardians of the Coasts is a collective effort to protect coastal heritage, strengthen citizen participation and defend public space.
